Trading updates for Wincanton subsidiaries

06 November 2008

Wincanton-owned haulage contractor Swales Haulage turned in a £4.3m pre-tax profit for the 17 months ending 31 March 2008, four months after the logistics giant snapped it up for £5.3m. The Reading-based brick haulier has now had its entire trade and assets transferred to Wincanton and has ceased trading. Its turnover from discontinued operations was almost £9m.

Swales' results have been released at the same time as results for three  other companies that Wincanton has bought in the past two years. They reveal that RDL Distribution and Lane Group did not trade in the year ending 31 March 2008, but that Hanbury Davies reported a turnover from discontinued operations of £64m.

The container haulier, bought by Wincanton in January 2008, made a pre-tax profit of £28m. A Wincanton spokeswoman says the company is unable to comment on the figures ahead of the release of the Plc's half-yearly results due later this week.
