Drivers may have to suffer with a complex coding entrance system at a Bognor Regis truck park as a result of the council's wrath at travellers settling in the area.
The Western Arun Area Committee has agreed to investigate whether barriers which need a code to open should be installed in the London Road coach and lorry park to prevent travellers gaining access.
During the 29 October meeting it was decided that coaches and lorries would not be banned from the parking site using a height barrier, but instead drivers might have to enter a code.
Chrys Rampley, manager of infrastructure at the Road Haulage Association, was keen to point out how problematic the scheme could be. "Drivers may not be able to access a code which would cause frustration. Who is going to issue codes and how? I think they are making life complicated for themselves."
A spokeswoman for Arun District Council says the technical aspects of the system have not yet been discussed in detail, but confirmed that the parking area would not be made smaller to create extra car spaces for the University of Chichester.
