Commercial vehicle sales are down 31.1% for October, with van and truck sales falling 35.2% and 9.4% respectively. The shift has also sees Vauxhall overtake Ford in terms of market share for the first time in the light CV sector - with 24% as opposed to Ford's 23.63%.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, says: "Van demand will drop sharply, before steadying at the end of 2009 to recover in 2010. "The outlook for 2009 is poor in recessions, truck demand falls steeply. It will be a difficult year, with tough trading conditions for all businesses."
