The DSG Group, which includes Currys and PC World, has reported sales down by 7% compared with this time last year. However, a spokesman for DSG says the company plans "to increase its transport operation in the run up to Christmas in line with customer demand".
Meanwhile Home Retail Group - the parent company of Argos and Homebase - has also posted a 9% drop in sales on 12 months ago. Argos would not comment on how the economic situation could affect its truck operation, but Terry Duddy, Home Retail Group chief executive, says the challenging conditions look set to remain for "some time".
He adds: "The group continues to adapt to this backdrop, and our operating model and financial strength will be key drivers of competitive advantage."
