MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Iveco and Renault say they all remain committed to next year's CV Show, following the decision by Daf and Scania to pull out.
Scania MD Hans-Christer Holgersson says: "We have decided to redirect our resources for 2009 towards local marketing campaigns and exciting new customer initiatives instead [of exhibiting]." He expects Scania will return to the show in 2010.
The news comes as the latest Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures reveal truck and van sales tumbled 9.4% and 35.2% respectively last month. Scania took a noticeable dip, moving down to sixth place from fourth compared with the previous year-to-date figure. Daf, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco retained their first to third positions respectively.
Daf marketing director Tony Pain says in the current climate, "we need to reduce our operating costs".
However, a Mercedes-Benz spokesman says: "We will be at the CV Show as usual – with all sides of the business [trucks and vans] represented."
An Iveco spokesman adds: "We plan to be there with a full range of vehicles, but it's a deeply challenging environment at the moment."
A total of 350 exhibitors are confirmed for the show (just two down compared with the same time last year), representing exhibition space of 40,000m2 (compared with 42,500m2 a year ago).
