Denmark has become the latest country to test 60-tonne 25.25-metre trucks on its roads. The longer, heavier vehicles (LHVs) will be allowed on specified main roads from 24 November for a three-year trial period.
Earlier this year, the Dutch government reintroduced its 60-tonne weight limit for LHVs, which had been temporarily abandoned because of fears for weak bridges.
The UKs Department for Transport has been more cautious, rejecting the idea of a trial in June, although it has since said it is considering authorising longer semi-trailers.
Pressure to introduce larger trucks across Europe continues to be brought by trade organisations. At this year's IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover, these included the International Road Transport Union (IRU), German car and truck manufacturer lobby group VDA, and the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
