Lorry driver sentenced for road rage knife attack

13 November 2008

A Merseyside lorry driver has been sentenced for a "moment of madness" road rage incident. At Liverpool Crown Court yesterday (11 November), 54-year-old HGV driver John Corbishley was sentenced for the attack in which he brandished a bread knife at a family, cut into the dashboard of their family car and sawed their sat-nav wires.

The court heard that Corbishley, of Queens Croft, Formby, had indicated for the family of  four to pull over on 7 September 2007 on Hall Lane near Liverpool City Centre, because he believed the driver, Shaun Anderson, has cut him up. After the attack he drove off towards the M62 in his 40-tonne truck.

For having an article with a blade, damaging property and threatening behaviour, Corbishley was sentenced to 40 weeks' imprisonment suspended for two years and 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £874 compensation to his victims. For the defendant, Jeff Pedley said Corbishley had not offended before and regretted his "moment of madness".
