Teen arsonists pay compensation for torching truck

13 November 2008

Two teens have avoided jail for torching a £17,000 lorry, but must pay compensation for vandalism.

Swindon Crown Court gave the offenders 24-month sentences, which were suspended for a year, and 150 hours of community service for their parts in setting fire and causing extensive damage to a HGV in Trowbridge.

Jayson Elliott of Trowbridge and Aaron McGrath from Bradford on Avon, both aged 19, admitted to being drunk and setting fire to tachograph charts, which spread through the truck  on 7 September. Elliott was ordered to pay £1,200 compensation and McGrath £600.
