In the first five months of the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ), operators contested most of the penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued to UK-registered trucks - and in more than 90% of contested cases, the charges were dropped.
Between the introduction of the LEZ in February and 7 July, Transport for London issued 6,271 PCNs to UK-registered trucks. Some 4,311 were contested and, of those, 4,040 resulted in the penalty charges being cancelled.
