Volkswagen opens Glasgow van centre

14 November 2008

Volkswagen has launched a purpose-built van centre in Glasgow with the aim of bringing standards of service that car drivers experience to CV customers. The £3m Verve centre, owned and run by Charlie Adair – who started in 1998 selling CVs from a shed – is designed to Volkswagen specifications and features a bespoke workshop.

Adair says the CV business had grown to such a size that it was time to find separate premises  away from the car side.
“Our new dedicated premises allow us to concentrate on vans and only vans. Our previous premises were shared with the passenger car business and this put space at a premium.”

The new centre will open 8am to 8pm seven days a week, and provide a ‘service while you wait’ facility. “Van owners are more demanding than passenger car [owners] because they run bespoke vehicles that do a specific job. The longer they’re off the road, the more it costs the business – and we need to cater to this.”

The Verve centre is now also offering an in-house Volkswagen approved body conversion service that meets ISO criteria. “After seeing £500,000 worth of conversions walk out of the door to contractors, it is time to stop directing our customers elsewhere and bring the business in-house,” Adair says.
