Stobart Group has received a £4.3m grant from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to develop its inland port at Widnes. The grant will go towards bringing into service 48.3 acres of underused and contaminated land at the Mersey Multimodal Gateway (3MG).
The company's new 54,115m2 distribution facility at
the site is due to be ready by 2010 and the project is expected to create 1,200 jobs.
Andrew Tinkler, Stobart Group chief executive, says: "We are delighted with the support we have received from the NWDA and Halton Borough Council, without which this development would not have gone ahead."
