Axors steel the limelight at Fowle

18 November 2008

Steel stockholder Fowle & Co has bought its first Mercedes-Benz trucks: two Axor 2533L 26-tonners. The three-axle rigids have special 28ft bodies with recessed coil wells and sliding roofs for crane loading, built by Roco of Bradford.

Director Nigel Fowle says: "We'd had some warranty and servicing issues with our previous vehicle supplier, so decided to go out to the market. [Dealership] Rossetts'  Eastbourne workshop is open 24 hours a day, which our previous supplier can't match."

He is now considering the purchase of Mercedes-Benz tractor units. Family-owned and Hastings-based Fowle & Co has links to all leading international steel suppliers and relies on a fleet of a dozen trucks to deliver more than 70,000 tonnes of steel a year.
