Concerns raised over Danish LHV trials

19 November 2008

A leading transport organisation in Denmark has expressed concerns over trials of longer, heavier vehicles (LHVs). The three-year evaluation of 60-tonne, 25.25-metre trucks will start from 24 November on specified Danish main roads.

However, Jorn-Henrik Carstens, technical consultant at  Danish transport group International Transport Denmark (ITD), says: "We are not that happy with the missing flexibility in terms of getting permits to drive directly to factories, stores and such that are placed beside the network.

"It seems that the layout of roads is setting the terms rather then the needs of transportation, therefore some rather great opportunities for the effective use of LHVs are not possible."
