Volvo is the latest to pull out of the CV Show

21 November 2008

The CV Show may be left with only three major truck manufacturers at the 2009 event after Volvo became the latest to pull out.

A statement from the Warwick-based firm says it will now concentrate on dealer-led events in 2009.

It adds: "Following the success of the recent series of 'Fuelwatch'-themed customer events held by the dealer network to launch the new-generation FH16, FH and FM vehicles,  Volvo Trucks has decided not to attend the CV Show in 2009. Instead, the company will focus its resources on customer and prospective customer-oriented regional and local activities."

Volvo Trucks managing director Göran Nyberg adds: "Fuelwatch is central to our programmes to help customers reduce their fuel bills.

"Our customers are telling us that they want to see more of this type of event. In the light of the current economic circumstances, we will work even more closely with our customers and we believe that this requires a much more local and regional approach by working through our dealers."

Volvo is also cutting around 190 staff from its HQ and wholly owned dealer network and this has been a factor in the decision too, admits a spokesman.

Sister company Renault declared yesterday that it too would not be attending, joining Scania,  DAF, Schmitz, Krone and Isuzu Truck.
