Harvey makes a comeback

26 November 2008

Former Tibbett & Britten CEO John Harvey has made a shock return to the transport industry as part of a consortium that has purchased underperforming multi-modal business Roadways Container Logistics (RCL) from its parent Maersk.

Maersk announced on 20 November that it had accepted an undisclosed offer for the shares of RCL from new business Aegeus Transport. Aegeus is run by MD Chris Parker, who ran M&J Seafoods, with Nick Matthews as operations director and David Fowle as finance  director. Alongside Harvey, who ran Tibbett & Britten until its sale to Exel in 2004, the board includes Richard Summers and Robert Gregory.

In 2006, RCL made a loss of £23.6m this improved last year to a pre-tax profit of £1.5m, aided by an exceptional item of £12m. It ended the year to 31 December 2007 with an outstanding loan of £25m to Maersk. Aegeus declined to comment on the specifics of the deal.
