The number of road goods vehicles travelling from the UK to mainland Europe fell by 3% to 695,000 in the third quarter of 2008, according to Department for Transport statistics. Of this number, 511,000 were powered trucks (down 4%) and 185,000 were unaccompanied trailers (down 2%).
Of the powered trucks, 20% (101,000) were UK-registered. Polish trucks made up the highest number of foreign-registered vehicles (66,000), followed by trucks from the Netherlands (58,000) and Germany (53,000).
