Nelson celebrates with new Actros

02 December 2008

Nelson Distribution has celebrated it 60th anniversary by buying a very special truck: a 44-tonne Megaspace-cabbed Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor unit. The vehicle is powered by a 410hp engine, because it's usually lightly laden on regular trips to France. It is part of a £100,000 investment programme, which includes the acquisition of new trailers.

The Belper, Derbyshire firm runs a fleet of 15  trucks – all Mercedes-Benz – and 38 trailers. It has warehousing capacity for 3,000 pallets and paper reels, and distributes a broad range of products. Company policy is to buy vehicles outright from Midlands Mercedes dealer Mertrux and, once out of warranty, maintain them in-house. It operates Sprinters, Axors and Actros units.

"In these turbulent times, we are delighted to have reached our diamond anniversary of providing quality distribution services to industry. We are proud that we have been trading with some of our customers for more than 40 years," says MD Simon Nelson.
