Abandon Severn Bridge toll rise, says haulier

03 December 2008

A haulage firm has called for the proposed increase in Severn Bridge toll fares to be abandoned. Owens Road Services, based in Llanelli, says the rise of 30p per journey, due to come into force in the new year, will add thousands to its annual bill.

Ian Jarman, the firm's environmental and legislation manager, says: "We would like the proposed increase in toll fares along  the Severn Bridge to be scrapped.

"It currently costs £15.90 a time for one of our trucks to travel inbound across the bridge - an annual cost of £168,000. "This is set to rise to £16.20 on 1 January and, with an average of 880 trips a month, this will increase our annual spend by £3,161."
