Aberlour, Banffshire-based McPherson has accused union Unite of excessive demands in the current economic climate in a pay dispute that has already seen drivers hold one 24-hour strike. According to McPherson HR manager Julie Benson, Unite initially asked for a 42% pay rise for drivers, but has since dropped this to 8%.
"We believe this is still excessive in the current economic climate and have offered 4.25% this year and inflation-proof increases the subsequent two years." Benson adds the previous strike, held on 26 November, did not disrupt deliveries.
However, Unite regional representative Tommy Campbell says if pay demands are not met, drivers will hold a three-day strike, starting on Friday 5 December.
"We are willing to talk to the company, but will strike on Friday, Monday and Tuesday if no action is taken," he threatens.
