Drivers at McPherson of Aberlour have called off strike action and agreed to a 4.25% pay offer from the drinks distributor. The drivers held a 24-hour strike on 26 November and were due to hold a three-day walkout on 5, 8 and 9 December, but this was postponed while the drivers were balloted on the latest McPherson pay offer.
The company offered drivers 4.25% this year followed by inflation-proof rises for the following two years. Last week it emerged that Unite initially asked for 42%, but then dropped this to 8%. Julie Benson, HR manager at McPherson, says: "Unite initially rejected the proposals - but following feedback and requests from members, the union was compelled to give drivers the opportunity to vote on the offer."
Unite regional representative Tommy Campbell confirms the dispute has been resolved. "Fifty drivers were balloted and 42 voted in favour of the 4.25% pay rise this year and inflation plus 0.5% for the following two years."
