A swathe of retail collapses has lead to uncertainty among operators and vehicle rental firms over the future of contracts for high street businesses.
Adams Childrenswear went into administration on 31 December with the loss of 111 shops and 850 jobs around the UK. A spokesman for administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) says Adams has its own transport fleet, on contract with Fraikin and Alltruck.
The remaining 160 stores will stay open as normal while the administrators look for a purchaser. Also going into administration in December was clothing retailer The Officer's Club, which outsourced its transport operations to TNT. TNT was unavailable for comment as CM went to press.
TimeC 1215 has since purchased the business and assets of 118 of the firm's 150 stores, securing 1,000 jobs across the UK. Elsewhere, Wincanton is undergoing consultations for the redeployment of "as many as possible" of the 188 staff made redundant following the closure of all 807 Woolworths stores this week.
Of those affected, 122 were drivers, with 108 of them based at Castleton and Swindon. Some 126 tractors and 260 trailers were used on the contract, which dated back to 1994.
