Iveco keeps sights set on 15% heavy market share

12 January 2009

Iveco aims to increase its market share in heavy trucks from 8% to 15% by 2011 under its current five-year growth plan.

A strong contender in the light and medium van sector, Iveco plans to achieve its target by reshaping its current sales organisation and developing a comprehensive network of trained franchised dealers.

Henk van Leuven, Iveco UK managing director, says: "We know 2009 is going to be a challenging year, but we  are excited because despite the crisis there is scope for other opportunities. We want to upgrade our existing facilities and promote franchised dealers in order to maximise profits and in turn increase market share."

Iveco will have its work cut out if last week's SMMT figures are anything to go by, because although it posted an increase in heavy truck sales to 6,226 units in 2008 (up from 5,710 units in 2007), the Italian manufacturer's slice of the pie dropped from 11.3% in 2007 to 10.8% last year and in the process it slipped to fourth in overall sales.
