23 January 2009

VOSA has revealed the first three testing stations thatwill close as part of its programme to revolutionise the delivery of HGV testing. The test stations at Bredbury, Stockport Steeton, Bradford and Par (St Austell), Cornwall will all close by the summer. VOSA says staff will be  relocated to neighbouring stations and customers will be kept informed of alternative test locations.

A VOSA spokesman says: "Consideration will be given for relocation to alternative sites based on a number of factors such as work demand and personal circumstance. Primarily these will be Chadderton for Bredbury, Leeds for Steeton and Plymouth or Redruth for St Austell."

Chief operating officer Alex Fiddes says: "VOSA has a strong vision of transformed testing that will be delivered by expert staff closer to the point of operation and maintenance." The Department for Transport (DfT) has tasked VOSAwith the mission of shifting 85% of tests to privately run Authorised Testing Facilities (ATF) by 2013.
