Container haulage company Stanian Transport has purchased its first 6x2 Renault Premium 450.25 tractor unit to service local haulage operations in the north of England.
Phil Chambers, managing director of the Manchester-based firm, says: "We are very pleased with the performance of the new Renault Premium. We chose the Euro-5 truck, with automatic gearbox, for its low emissions and also to save on fuel costs - and we are currently comparing fuel efficiency against the other trucks on our fleet."
Chambers adds: "Our Volvos and Scanias are Euro-4 and Euro-3 respectively, and with the Euro-5 Renault we were able to claim the Reduced Pollution Certificate [RPC]."
Under current regulations, operators that purchase Euro-5 trucks before the 1 October deadline will qualify for an RPC. This means they can take advantage of a reduced rate of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) worth as much as £500 per year for the life of the vehicle.
The Premium 450 joins a 30-strong mixed fleet comprising Volvo and Scania tractors, and Stanian also has a Renault Magnum on order for international operations.
