UK truck prices are set to climb as the pound continues to weaken against the euro and Japanese yen. The dip in the exchange rate couldn't come at a worse time for the truck industry, which is already struggling with decreased demand.
Ray Ashworth, incoming CEO of Daf UK, says: "Daf assembles its vehicles in the UK, however the majority of parts are manufactured in Europe. We've seen a 20% adverse swing in the currency, so we need to increase our prices by around 7% next month (February)."
Renault and MAN have found themselves in the same predicament, with both manufacturers stating that a price increase is planned "very soon".
However, not all the European manufacturers are upping their prices, with target=_new>Mercedes-Benz and Iveco stating their intentions to keep their existing price structure in place. Meanwhile, Japanese truck-makers Mitsubishi and Isuzu have also bucked the trend despite the yen's strong performance against the pound.
