British Car Auctions (BCA) has highlighted the most desirable optional extras for vans in order to help owners maximise values at resale. In the current market, ply-lined vans with side loading doors are deemed to be the most attractive. According to BCA, sellers can expect to see £200-£300 added to the value of the vehicle compared with standard vans.

As smaller vans will spend most of their time in congested urban environments,  side loading doors are a 'must-have'. Depending on the model, twin sliding doors can fetch up to £250 at resale.

Duncan Ward, BCA's UK business development manager, says: "Used buyers now expect to see ply-lining because it protects the vehicle from 'inside-out' damage. It might add only £200 or so, but the real benefit is that the van is likely to be in a more saleable condition after three or four years' hard work."

Ward says air conditioning is highly valued, especially when combined with a bulkhead. "On a late-year, low-mileage van, the difference in sale price can be as much as £500. When you are offering upwards of 400 vans in some of our bigger sales, you really notice how the buyers gravitate towards the best presented, well specified vehicles," he adds.
