Council rejects Thurrock truckstop proposals

24 February 2009

Thurrock Council's planning committee has rejected plans for a secure overnight lorry park in the area. Lanpro Services submitted a proposal to create 130 HGV spaces on a site opposite the A13 and Arterial Road in North Stifford, Essex, but it failed to gain approval from councillors last week.

The application, which includes designs for a new access road and facilities buildings, will now be considered by the planning committee of  the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation.

Chrys Rampley, manager, infrastructure, environment and business affairs at the Road Haulage Association, says the park is necessary to help support the nearby ports of Tilbury and Shell Haven, which are currently undergoing development and expansion.
