Next Ford Ranger is shown early

25 February 2009

Ford has unveiled the latest version of its Ranger pickup ahead of its official public screening at next month's Geneva motor show.

Visually the new Ranger's look is dominated by the large three-bar chrome grille, while the large wrap-around headlamps bear a strong resemblance to those of its cousin, the Mazda BT-50.

For better visibility, Ford has increased the size of the wing mirrors - and those who wish to make a statement can choose the Wildtrack model (pictured) and have the wing mirrors, as well as the door handles, chromed. The larger mirrors also house indicator lights - and at the rear, clear tail-lamps add to the Ranger's bling.

Inside, the Ranger enjoys many comfort features that were virtually unheard of in a pickup a few years ago, with comfortable seats, MP3-compatible sound system and climate control all featuring.

Mechanical revisions have been kept to a minimum. Customers will have a choice of either two- or four-wheel-drive models, while the drivelines include a 2.5- or 3.0-litre TDCI Duratorq engine mated to either five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford Ranger goes on sale in the UK in the last quarter of 2009.
