Lloyd Fraser enters fashion logistics sector

Monday 02 March 2009 04:58

The Lloyd Fraser Group has entered the specialist fashion logistics sector for the first time.

The company claims contracts worth a total of £15m have already been agreed with some of the high street's most well known chains, but will not reveal any more details.

The operation, primarily based around the company's depots in Rugby, Wembley, Huddersfield, Glasgow and Bristol, provides shared-user distribution and value-added services for retailers.

Products - boxed goods and hanging garments - can be received, stored and then picked for onward trunking before being delivered to customer stores.

The company has invested in new vehicles for the service, including a mix of 7.5-tonne and 18-tonne box rigids.

Some 70 people are employed on the operation, 50 of which are new recruits.

Lloyd Fraser hopes the agreement, which went live in December 2008, will last beyond the initial two-and-a-half-year contract length.

Mike Faye, operations director at Lloyd Fraser, says: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Lloyd Fraser to move into the area of fashion logistics, where previously we haven't had a presence.

"Fashion logistics has long had a perception of being a niche market requiring premium service that comes at a premium price. We can now offer that premium service but at a reasonable price."
