Lawrence David has designed a versatile new trailer for carrying steel products.
The 45ft-long trailer, which will be used by TDG on its Corus contract, is able to transport beams and tubes up to 13.6m long, coils of strip steel and wire rod, as well as sheets of plate steel.
TDG says that since the new trailers can carry a greater variety of shapes and sizes of steel products, they will be capable of accommodating more return loads.
Initially, three will go into operation, but TDG hopes many more will be introduced in the coming months.
Mark Starosolsky, operations director at TDG, says the idea for the trailer came from one of his firm's operations planners and took "a matter of months" to design.
"We're currently working on similarly ground-breaking trailer projects in other areas of our business", he adds.
Chris Wimhurst, Corus director of logistics, claims the trailer supports the company's twin objectives of improving operating efficiency and environmental awareness.
