Geoffrey Simms, the former Traffic Commissioner for the Eastern Traffic Area, has been awarded honorary membership of the Road Haulage Association (RHA) for outstanding service to the industry.

Simms began his career in transport in 1957, when he joined building merchant Hall and Company, rising through the ranks to divisional transport manager. In 1969 he formed his own transport company, Capel Express,  in Ipswich, and became an RHA member the following year.

In 1990 Simms became a member of the Transport Tribunal, and he was TC for the Eastern Traffic Area from 1998 until his retirement in 2007 when he was replaced by Richard Turfitt.
