Welsh Assembly to spend £95m on roads and transport

18 March 2009

The Welsh Assembly has unveiled a £95m package of grants for road and transport improvements across the country.

Ieuan Wyn Jones, Welsh Minister for Economy and Transport, has allocated local authorities more than £63m of the total package for road-improvement schemes. The remaining funds will be spent on public transport and cycle schemes.

"This allocation will support transport schemes  throughout Wales - helping us to ensure sustainable development and prosperous communities in every part of our country," says Jones.

Road schemes that will receive funding include the Ceredigion link road, near Aberystwyth, and the peripheral distributor road in Neath Port Talbot.

Earlier this month, the £61m scheme to improve the A5117 was completed after three years.
