Subbies working for cash-strapped Clitheroe haulier Barnes & Tipping (B&T) have been speaking out as they face up to losing money following its administration earlier this month.
Jackie White, accounts manager at Cockermouth, Cumbria-based firm Lawsons Haulage, says it is owed money dating back to September 2008. "We chased and chased and eventually threatened [B&T] with a winding-up order. We got the cheque on the Monday, it bounced on Wednesday, and [B&T] went into administration on Thursday. My boss was absolutely blazing."
Another haulier owed money by B&T adds: "The debt won't break me, but it wouldn't have broken them to pay me either." B&T was acquired by Kevin Tinnelly, boss of failed Northern Irish business Tinnelly International Transport, in May last year.
Administrator SF Plant is looking to sell the business as a going concern. Partner Simon Plant says: "Financial difficulties arose last year due to lack of funding and the negative effects of the economic downturn."
