The Road Haulage Association (RHA) is making 12 of its 37 Weybridge, Surrey headquarters staff redundant.
The dozen affected staff are in IT, marketing and accounts; their roles are being lost as these functions are coming together under one roof alongside similar functions at the Peterborough office, which will see anything between three and six new jobs created. A total of 32 staff, plus five mobile trainers, are already based at Peterborough.
The specialist sector managers, international, communications and policy staff at Weybridge are unaffected.
Outgoing chief executive Roger King says: "We've been reviewing our performance and structure. We've lost quite a bit of money because of [the cancellation of] the CV Show."
The RHA has also had to make significant payments into its pension fund, which showed a £1.6m deficit following a revaluation at the end of 2007. The association's 2008 accounts will not appear for a few months, but chief executive designate Geoff Dunning says: "We've drawn a line under the pension fund issue as of the end of last year."
King adds: "We've taken a prudent view of costs relating to the CV show cancellation in our 08 accounts."
The RHA's 2007 accounts show a contribution of £365,003 from its share of the CV Show. Total membership income was £6.8m, delivering a post-tax surplus of £196,528 before accounting for the pension deficit.
Dunning notes that there have been discussions about the viability of a CV Show in 2010, but no firm decision will be taken until the third quarter.
Summing up the situation, he says: "I want to create foundations on which to build for the future. These redundancies won't jeopardise services to members."
