Suckling Transport, which is based in Thurrock, Essex, intends to employ six new driver trainers by September as part of its ongoing schemes to eliminate any driver errors. Of these six new driver trainers, three will be senior trainers for its contracts with ConocoPhillips and Shell.
The Driver CPC training, however, will be outsourced, and a provider will be selected that can also incorporate NVQ Level 2 or 3 driver qualifications into its training.
"We recognise that in our sector we need to be raising the bar in terms of training," says managing director Peter Larner.
The firm already offers around £150,000 in driver incentives annually, and from 1 July, as part of a new competition, drivers will be placed in individual depot and national teams to try to complete one million killometres of driving without any accidents, spillages or product contamination.
Awards will include trophies and prizes from sponsors Michelin and MAN. Suckling will also donate money to a team's chosen charity.
