Robert McCarroll buys trailer with self-steer axle

20 April 2009

Road paving and construction plant equipment company Robert McCarroll has acquired a new tri-axle trailer to transport asphalt pavers, rollers and self-propelled chipping machines across Scotland.

The Glasgow firm will use a Volvo FH12 powered by a 520  hp engine to pull the 38-tonne capacity, 13.2-metre long SFCL50 step frame trailer from Andover Trailers. It also features a BPW self-tracking and lifting rear axle, together with air-suspension.

Robert McCarroll, managing director, says: "One new innovation that we have introduced to the fleet with this trailer is the self-steer axle, after working closely with Andover's designers. It has made a world of difference for the driver as it is more manoeuvrable in confined spaces."
