Van manufacturers are calling for the vehicle scrappage scheme to be expanded to include light CVs in tomorrow's Budget.
Denis Chick, director of communications for Vauxhall UK, believes the move would help get more people into showrooms, particularly private buyers.
Keith Hawes, Renault director of fleet and LCV sales, also backs the introduction of the scheme and adds that incentives towards purchasing Euro-5 vehicles would further stimulate buyer interest.
Steve Bridge, Mercedes-Benz van sales and marketing director, agrees, adding: "The scrappage scheme provides an incentive to remove older, less emission-friendly vehicles from UK roads."
He is also looking for a commitment towards an infrastructure for natural gas, as opposed to electric, which he says is not suitable for vans due to payload restrictions.
Thirdly, Bridge would like to see an increase in the threshold on capital expenditure for plant/machinery from £50,000 to £100,000 as part of corporation tax relief, allowing businesses to gain full tax relief on their van purchases.
