One of the men behind last year's fuel protests has told Roadtransport.com that there is a chance of further action this year following the Chancellor's announcement of a 2p/litre duty rise in September.
Transaction 2007 organiser Mike Presneill, of Kent-based tipper operator Presneill Tipper Contractors, says the group of hauliers is "taking stock of the situation with regard to the industry and fuel duty in 2009".
It has changed its website's homepage to read: "We watched Mr Darling's budget with interest! The UK Haulage Industry has had enough fuel duty increases now....be warned Mr Darling! We WILL be taking action!"
Presneill adds: "The sleeping dog has just woken up again. I would say we need to make some noises. We will look at the opportunities and only undertake it legally."
Last April, Presneill was one of the organisers of protests in London's Park Lane, which saw more than 100 trucks make their way to London to protest against rising fuel prices and duty.
The following month he was part of a group of protesters who handed a letter to Gordon Brown calling for the withdrawal of a planned 2p/litre fuel hike, the decoupling of domestic and haulage fuel duty and the creation of an essential user rebate.
