Car transport specialist Autologic has denied it has threatened to derecognise the Unite trade union at its business and says it is working with the union to review its working practices.
The firm, which is suffering from the massive decline in the automotive industry, says a review of working practices among drivers is critical to its long-term health. However, it denies it is about to decrease its 280 drivers' average pay and says it is happy for drivers to retain membership of a trade union body.
In a joint statement, Autologic CEO Avril Palmer-Baunack and Unite assistant general secretary Len McCluskey say: "Together, Unite and Autologic are committed to ensuring that the business is well positioned to manage the difficult economic conditions that have severely impacted the automotive sector.
"Additionally, Autologic would like to make it clear that it is not seeking union derecognition. Autologic and Unite will remain in constructive dialogue and expect to conclude a new framework agreement for the future in due course."
Autologic would not say whether redundancies could result from its review of driver working practices.
