The Freight Transport Association's (FTA) Every Penny Counts campaign is gaining momentum with more than 100 MPs now lending their support to an early day motion (EDM) that supports the campaign.
Launched in March, the campaign's objective is to get as many MPs as possible to sign the EDM , which calls for a moratorium from the government on further increases in fuel duty and other fee hikes from government agencies, such as VOSA.
To date, 109 cross-party MPs have signed the EDM, which will remain open until September.
Jo Tanner, FTA director of communications, met with Conservative MPs on Tuesday to highlight how the industry is being hit by the numerous government fee hikes.
"The fight over fuel duty continues," says Tanner. "We have five months to turn around the Chancellor's decision and we have a great deal of parliamentary and on-the-ground support.
"Now is the time to have a sensible discussion about having a different rate of fuel duty for commercial vehicles, and this is something we will be taking forward in the coming weeks."
