Nigel Rice Transport has invited staff to finance their own forthcoming Driver CPC training under a charity-based scheme it believes will benefit both operator and driver.
Using TIR Training Services, a 'non-profitable' training organisation owned by Defence Logistic Vocational Qualification Trust (DEFLOG VQT), East Yorkshire-based Nigel Rice Transport says it has been able to offer drivers the opportunity to do the course for as little as £1.55 a week.
The transport manager at Nigel Rice, Andy Harrison, says employees have been given the choice to have the amount deducted off their weekly wages for approximately five years.
"I think you are a fool if you bury your head in the sand over the Driver CPC, which kicks off in September. If you don't have it in the future, you are essentially unemployable. This way drivers can gradually finance the course while we cope with the cost burden of them being off work to train," he says.
According to Tim Watson, sales and marketing manager at TIR, the scheme is ideal for groups who would rather spread payment of the course over as long as five years.
Watson says 65 drivers have already been signed up for the course.
