Winners announced at Everywoman Awards

Elaine Miller, operations director at Wincanton Container Logistics, was named Woman of the Year at the MAN everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards today (14 May).

She started her career as an  accountant at Russell Davies, becoming the firm’s first and only female director. When the business was sold to Securicor, she became development director. After a sabbatical she joined Hanbury Davies. When it was sold to Wincanton, she helped facilitate the integration. She also facilitated the integration of subsequent Wincanton purchase CEL.

Another six women also won awards:

  • Commercial Driver of the Year – Michelle Cubbin, low load driver, J Mallinson (Ormskirk).
  • Warehousing Award – Loraine Greening, senior manager – operations, FedEx Express.
  • Team of the Year – Nina Hart, transport and warehouse manager, Simarco International.
  • Rising Star of the Year – Tricia Madge, trains performance manager – Central Line, London Underground.
  • Industry Trainer of the Year – Joe Thorp, training manager, London Underground.
  • Director of the Year – Vicki Davenport, sales & commercial director, The Pink Link.

The awards, in association  with Skills for Logistics and supported by Motor Transport, are designed to highlight the contributions women make in the industry and to encourage more women to pursue a career in transport and logistics.

Karen Gill, co-founder and director of everywoman, says: “These women have all made an outstanding contribution to the sector, which is why they have been chosen as winners. We are confident that their success will not only propel their career forward, but will inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

MAN chief executive Des Evans adds: “The achievements of today’s winners cannot be underestimated. They have set the very highest standards in their own roles and are an example for anyone thinking of entering the industry.”

“It is fantastic to see such innovative work,” says Skills for Logistics chief executive Dr Mick Jackson, “and to acknowledge how exciting the industry can be and the varied opportunities available to a diverse workforce.”
