Tipper fleet fits blindspot scanners

18 May 2009

Demolition specialist Keltbray has fitted its 32-strong tipper fleet with electronic sensors in an effort to cut the risk of accidents caused by blindspots. The Department for Transport says that more than half the deaths of cyclists in London are caused by collisions with trucks due to their nearside blindspot. Blindspot mirrors are the traditional solution, but Keltbray has also fitted a range of electronic sensors made by Brigade Electronics. The sensors warn the driver with a flashing light  if anything is in the blindspot, and they also warn the person in the danger zone with a spoken warning.
