London Mayor has lucky escape in lorry incident

Tuesday 26 May 2009 12:00

London Mayor Boris Johnson had a lucky escape when a lorry nearly dragged a car into the path of his bicycle.

At 11.10am on Friday (22 May) in Limehouse, London, the doors of a moving truck accidently swung open, catching on a car and dragging it yards down Narrow Street. CCTV images and the Mayor's Office confirm that Johnson was just moments ahead of the HGV.

Johnson comments: "Fortunately no one was hurt, but this incident reinforces the need for us to make London's road safer for cyclists.

"Cycle super highways, which are part of our record investment in cycling, will play a central role in this, providing clearly demarcated routes for cyclists that lorry drivers and others will be aware of."
