UK transport MEPs are all re-elected

Tuesday 09 June 2009 14:37

All of the British MEPs who sat on the EU's Transport and Tourism Committee (TTC) and who stood for re-election have held on to their seats in the European Parliament.

Conservative MEPs Philip Bradbourn and Timothy Kirkhope, Labour MEP Brian Simpson and UK Independence Party (UKIP) MEP Mike Nattrass have all held on to their EU seats.

All four politicians were on the TCC, which oversees policy for transport safety and the development of trans-European transport infrastructure. The only UK member of the committee not to return is Labour MEP Robert Evans, who did not run in the election.

There is no guarantee, however, they will be on the TCC again, as MEPs are not assigned a committee until after the election.

Following the European election on 4 June, the following British parties will have EU seats: Conservative (25), UKIP (13), Labour (13), Liberal Democrats (11), Green (2), BNP (2), SNP (2), and Plaid Cymru (1). There are also three seats to be announced by Northern Ireland.
