VOSA is handing over the operation of its Par (St Austell), Cornwall test station to private company Driveline GB. Reopening as a Designated Premises on 29 June, the centre will be a base for testing by VOSA staff.
Richard Jacobs, director of Driveline GB, says: "We are extremely happy to be associated with such a pioneering venture. When it transpired that the test station was due for imminent closure, there was a lot of locally voiced opposition. As a company we are proud to have a hand in extending a continuity of service to all of our future business partners."
Alex Fiddes, VOSA chief operating officer, says: "The closure reflects our desire to give customers the best possible service and we wish Driveline all the success in the future." VOSA already has 220 Designated Premises around the country.
In March, the Road Haulage Association called for an end to the closure of VOSA test stations until there were enough privately run facilities to support the needs of the haulage industry.
