Food distributor Fresh Direct believes it will have saved £300,000 in fuel by the end of the year as the result of a new vehicle tracking system it introduced in May 2008.
The company says it has made fuel savings of £8,000 in the past two months using Isotrak's Active Transport Management System (ATMS) across around half its fleet of 145 trucks and vans. Its fleet covered 34,500 fewer miles in that time.
Fresh Direct - which has hubs at Bicester, Oxon; Cambridge, Cambs; Evesham, Worcs; Skelmersdale, Lancs; Manchester and Glasgow - says the system has helped it improve route efficiency, increase vehicle utilisation and reduce fuel consumption through the monitoring of driver styles. It now plans to use the system across its entire fleet.
Nick Allen, head of logistics, predicts that by the end of this year his firm will have recorded total cost savings of £300,000 since adopting ATMS in May 2008.
He adds: "Isotrak's ATMS has transformed our communications and interactions with customers, while also showing us where and how we can make changes to use less fuel and work more efficiently."
