Plans for a 130-space truckstop with facilities in Thurrock have been rejected for the second time in five months.
Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (TTGDC) has said no to a secure overnight lorry park on a site opposite the A13 and Arterial Road in North Stifford, Essex. The proposal was also rejected by Thurrock Council in February.
The applicant, Norwich-based Lanpro Services, says the area is becoming a truck crime hotspot because drivers have nowhere safe to park. It also wanted to build a new access road for the lorry park.
TTGDC committee members refused the proposal on the basis that a new access road would hinder the safe movement of traffic. Member Ben Stoneham adds: "There is no evidence from the applicant that there are no other more suitable sites."
