Cumbria County Council has imposed a two-hour parking limit in certain lay-bys in response to complaints from local residents about truck drivers leaving litter.
After receiving committee approval for the move in February, the council is now posting 30 warning signs to inform lorry drivers that the ban applies to parts of the A6, A595, A689 and A7.
"This is a permanent fixture as we have had resident complaints of trailers causing congestion and drivers littering," a council spokesman tells Roadtransport.com.
He says those who flout the restrictions could face a fine.
The parking limits follow Carlisle City Council's announcement that it is increasing traffic warden numbers to clamp down on illegally parked HGVs, as a result of complaints from businesses at Kingstown Industrial Estate.
Despite the Road Haulage Association (RHA) claiming there are no other truckstop facilities in the area, Cumbria County Council says there are three lorry parks, including one in the Kingstown Industrial Estate.
