Courier website Parcel2Go.com expects its turnover in June to be nearly 50% higher than the same month in 2008, partly as the result of Royal Mail strikes attracting new customers to the site. Managing director Fil Adams-Mercer says turnover is expected to reach £825,000 for the month, compared with £559,000 in June 2008.
Adams-Mercer tells Motor Transport that the first three weeks of June were booming as customers looked for an alterative mode of delivery ahead of the Royal Mail strike in London on 19 June.
"We certainly benefit from the threat of a strike as we also experienced increased orders before Christmas 2008 when there were rumours of a Post Office strike, and we have statistics to show that once people have used us they become repeat customers," he says.
The site, which has been operating since 2003, has an active customer base of 200,000 and outsources work to couriers including City Link, DHL and FedEx.
For the financial year ending April 2010, the group expects turnover to rise to £12m from £11m the previous year. While pre-tax profits remain in line with predictions, Adams-Mercer says the group will continue to spend £50,000 a month in advertising to encourage company growth.
